Mirror Tap Power for 2016 F82
Hi guys - for what it's worth...anybody considering a Mirror Tap for a 2016 will need to use the power going to the rain-sensing unit. I could not pick up more than 9v going into the rear-view mirror, which was not enough to operate my Valentine 1. You'll see from the pics I tapped into the purple harness.
The only downside is that the Valentine will turn off, but delayed after accessory power shuts off. So I can lock the car and a few small LED's will stay on around the console...it took several minutes before the power on the Valentine finally turned off automatically but it will do it. I hope this is helpful! |

That's what we use, check with a multimeter to make sure power is there, I can't see the wiring changing so quickly.
Here's the DIY we posted earlier this year for reference. ▀▄ eas | DIY: Valentine One Hardwire http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1026319

I tried the steps from your post and a few others as well...it did not work in my setup. I even tried putting the leads direct onto the exposed terminals outside of the connector, in case the leads and my multimeter weren't seating properly. No luck there. So all is well it is working great. Just sharing my experience. Thanks for chiming in! |

This is my third time to try to mirror tap and finally success! Thank you OP for the rain sensor method.
I have 15 f82, and green/brown wire doesn't work with the RJ11 mirror tap cable. But rain sensor cable works perfectly. Please see picture for your reference.

Glad it worked for you. Not sure what is different with the wiring, and I'm surprised to see the same on a 2015. But one thing that matches up is if you go to mirrortap's blendmount section, they show a lot of different rear view mirrors that basically do the same by the ball connection is ever so slightly different. So who knows - glad this helped as it took me a while to somehow look about 1/2" behind and say 'hmmmm I wonder if that would work...' |

Shout out to the OP for sharing the rain sensor tap! The regular mirror tap method did not work for me... would not power the V1 in my 2016 F80.
And then tried the rain sensor tap and boom.. we got power folks! |

Did this last night and worked like a charm. I decided to tap the wires further down instead of tapping to the plug itself.

I installed the V1 + PerformancePackage mirror wire power cord (similar to the Mirror Tap) in my 2016 M3 today, and I was able to use the green/brown and brown/black wires in the mirror harness for power.
I'm wondering if it's an issue with the Mirror Tap? This is what I'm using; http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o00_s01 |

I have a 2016 F80 and also had trouble with the mirror tap and the green/brown and brown/black wires in the mirror harness. No matter how far I pushed the pins in the V1 would cut out at times, which makes me think the pins are too short.
To fix it, I cut the ends of the mirror tap off and instead used two posi-taps to get a solid connection to the green/brown and brown/black and now it works great. |

It turns on with the ignition and then turns off as soon as the compass in the mirror shuts off.

My V1 turns off several minutes later, I never noticed when the compass turns off vs. my V1 connected to the rain sensor, so I'll chime back in if it sheds any light. |

Having power from the main mirror harness, once I turn the power off, the mirror compass and V1 both turn off a few seconds later.

One thing that may be happening is using the wrong scotchlocks, since most detectors include blue scotchlocks. Blue scotchlocks are intended for 16-18AWG wire and may not properly pierce the jacket on the mirror's smaller gauge wiring and get a good bite. Make sure the red scotchlocks are used in order to get a good bite on the smaller 18-22AWG wires.

I have 2016 and it worked for me. I did have the power cutoff in the beginning so I checked and connection pins wasn't pushed all the way in. Everything works good now.
I suggest everyone to push the pins all the way in the connector.

The issue was not enough voltage, verified with a meter at a few points - particularly at the exposed solder portion, where you just can't miss the wire or incorrectly seat the multimeter tip. I'm sure many people have incorrectly seated their tap before and I wish that was my case, as it could have been fixed in a minute vs. lots of time diagnosing a mystery. Actually come to think of it I was assuming that was the case and spent too much time, leading me to get the multimeter and verify. Thanks Tom for all you do - this is no way to put down your guide. |
