Crap, I have a week 23 build and did a Euro Delivery on it. The car is currently on the ship.

Does anyone know if this would be replaced at the VDC? Or would the dealer need to replace it?

How do we find out if our car is affected? (I am in customs right now post-ED). Can we access this information online?

Most likely it just has a defect. The one in it probably works but needs to be replaced for safety reasons.

I just called Genius and they said the vehicles impacted had not yet been identified. I also did ED and already have the car.

This sucks - I am trying to see if they'll let me take my car as is next week ED and then the rear diff gets fixed here at VDC.

Right now they are offering me 2 options.

1) Get a substitute car for my ED trip - provided by BMW - unsure if its anywhere near equivalent and wait for delivery in the US.

2) Cancel my ED trip altogether and the car gets shipped directly to dealer.

Its not a huge deal I'm sure and BMW will take care of it. I'm a week 20 and finished production 5/17. I guess I'll find out Friday when I take it in for the 1200 mile service. However those with ED I hope it doesn't affect them terribly.

The guy at Genius just told me there were no holds on my car.. but if this is true I could still be affected. Great. Mine is supposed to be at the dealer by Sunday.

Anybody know if this is a 6MT/DCT issue or both?

Genius told me there were no holds on mine also but then looked deeper at the notification and said the bit about the impacted vehicles have not yet been identified. My F80 is 6MT.

Its a huge deal for me because I waited 3 months for my car and to see it and break it in while in Europe. Now I am being offered a substitute car to drive during my European trip - not what I was looking forward to. From what I read from the guy who ordered Atlantis Blue E9x M3 and when he did ED, saw that he was given ATLANTIC blue E9x M3 - BMW gave him a 5-series instead of an M3 to use while in Europe.

Completely agree, I amended my post after pondering the situation a bit more and the ED customers hit me. I was more referencing the work needing to be done on the car when I said its not a huge deal, in terms of our cars being timebombs or unsafe to drive. I really really really hope you get to drive YOUR car on your ED trip. I'm 110% sensitive to your situation as I am someone who becomes quite frustrated when plans are interrupted. Hoping the best for you bud and all ED customers.

Ed trips are really fun, loaner or regular car I would go. You will prob. be ok, as they will just need to swap differentials, connector or whatever the issue is. Its such a small stop sale should be sorted quick. Bmw makes almost 3000 cars a day. A few hundred will be sorted in no time.

Delivery Stop on Certain BMW M2, M3, M4, 5 and 6 Series For Rear Differential Replace

Are these for both manual and DCT ? I have the M4 ZCP with 6spd manual gearbox and my understanding was that the rear differential is different in manual comparing to DCT transmissions .

This pains me. I know it's for the best, but it still hurts. I had a 340i that I ordered back in February that was stuck at the VPC for an open campaign. The whole damn fuel tank had to be replaced.

I called customer relations and they told me that it is a matter of parts that need to be replaced in the rear differential and there is no supply of parts at this time. There is no way of taking my car "as-is" for ED and then having them repair later. BMW ED dept is in a big meeting right now trying to figure out next steps for ED customers like me taking delivery in the next week. They said they will be calling me in back in the next day or so as the office closes at 4:30pm est.

My car was produced on June 29 but is a Euro version.

Anyone knows if euro cars are affected?
