My first few laps in M4 GTS at Nur, 7.29min (bridge to gantry lap)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Only did 4 laps, this is last 4th. See description for info.
Car is superior to Porsche GT4 in the chassie, totaly superior. M4 GTS go over them curbs in wipperman whit out you feel it almost. Its magic. M4 GTS dont understeer. Porsche GT4 is very understeery in stock form. GT4 is not sweet as GTS over them curbs. Al over the track the GTS is sweet, GT4 is not the same level.

Here I do a lap with Swiss Chris, he also drive a GTS. Now I got 8 laps in GTS.

Meet some cool guys who did make a nice video when I drift the Lidner roundabout. I kind of do that with all new cars to figure out how they drive. My GT4 was accually more easy to drift in this roundabout than M4 GTS.

Real deal Cpt. Yes the GT4 is understeer king. One of my track friends blows a set of front tires each track day. I was at the track this past weekend with my GTS and I witnessed and set of Dunlops destroyed in 140 minutes track time The GT4 was no match for the GTS.

Nicely done Captain!

2 things: 1) how much more you got in there do you think? meaning...do you think you can still shave some time?....very impressive none the less

2) I have to ask.....what did you have the wing set for? middle or max attack? just cuz I know there was a bunch of discussion.....I just need to know

Thanks, and agree, GT4 in stock form is not as god as GTS in stock form.

Thanks!

Yes, very confident I would cut ca. 10-13 sec easy if only Done some more laps. It is One year since I drove this track, and now back with new car. I was not part of trackday, If I was I would lap 2 days, and my time would be around 7.15-7.20 bridge to gantry Laptime.

It was very frustrating to only do 4 laps this day on trackday. Listen to my car end of lap going in under Audi gantry finish. It go out of fuel, hence it was 30min left on my time, but did go in to Pit to try to get fuel. No luck in Pit to get it, and track close 30min prior to 17:00h. Hence I had only 2h, from 15:00h -17:00h and in this time track closed 2 times sombody crash. This mean I get 2 laps to set my tire pressure right, then 2 more laps

I did cut 15 sec from my 3 lap in the last 4th lap you see here at7.29min.

4 laps total is to less to go fast in a brand new car, also it was 1 year since I lap here. If I had only 4 more, 8 total this day I had cut plenty of seconds pretty easy. I am not pushing car hard this video lap, no high Vmax, no high Vmin, not braking hard.

In my GT4 i drive more or less same laptime, but 40 laps I got in that car. And no traffic on track. GTS is some traffic on track, still only 4 laps and still 2 sec faster in GTS.

If only I had a 5th lap in GTS, then I would dare to go much faster all over track.

Mind you I dont go fast lap here, still it ok fast. I got rear wing at nr. 2, and not once in this speed did I feel poor rear gripp, rear gripp is super! Front splitter is Max attack, but I would back it in slightly if I had time prior to lap. Front gripp is super, no understeer!
My car Is now set up For spa, I then lower it maximum, but will back in front splitter slightly and I think I go same nr. 2 rear wing. I feels so grippy in nr.2 and as spa is rather fast track I go nr. 2 rear and back in front splitter so its not maximum. Hence I need a high Vmax on SPA to Hunt them Porsches:-)

But at SPA i got 2 days, hence will try different settings on aero. The chassi I let it stay in stock low track/cliks setting like Jorge BMW M set it.

The guys setting up my car as we speek, they know Jorge the BMW M Factory driver and they also Said that his setting will be fine on SPA. Also I drove BMW stock setting high chassie setting on nur, and man its relaxed and sweetspot this car on that nasty track. My GT4 is more scary in a 7.30 btg pace wich I drove it One year ago, the GTS just is relaxed and not that scary at this same pace 7.29 btg pace. Hence I will easy go faster...

One year ago I drove my stock GT4 at 7.30 bridge to gantry time. But then it was on my 40th lap, 20 laps in may 2015, 20laps in sep 2015. Also free on track, no cars almost. See lap here...
If 40 laps in GTS, on free track I am looking at 7.15-7.20minBTG time For sure.
As of now I take more out of GT4 due to more laps in it, that all.

Car is fully stock, it drive very very well on Nurburgring . I have not done anything, just take it from shop and drive. You feel BMW DEVELOPED this car here! Its sweetspoot, tire is fine. Gt4 is not even close to be as sweet in stock form!

Best part is you see how hot tire is in BMW.

This is just as I get in to pit from my 4 lap at 7.29

As you see i am in the MPSC2 optimum working range 70-90 degrees. I never went over 90. Then again I get my tire pressure right. On ring thats hot 2.3 bar front and 2.1bar rear. Cold thats 1.6bar all tires the way I drive my car, then I hit 2.3 front 2.1 rear.

So 1.6bar is 23psi. You set to 1.6 bar when cold? I was at 31psi(2.1bar) cold and did feel slight understeer, very slight. I dropped to 27psi(1.8bar) and it was very good. I may try lower pressure now, thanks. 82 degrees on front tyres was my max temp.

Just to ad, the temp and pressure in that pic I post is after I drive half long straight to pull off track in to Pit, hence tires cool a bit there. Right when you go under gantry its higher pressure / temp. Also going from 3-4 lap, thats 2 laps, well pressure will go higher vs One lap.

I find 2.3 bar front and 2.1 rear hot pressure was fine. Also that pressure did Sport Auto use. Also on shot track kliner hockenheim.

Its a small world, haha! Nice seeing your video on top page!
Was great meeting at the Nurburgring (I was SwissChris codriver ).
A lot of traffic but those two laps with the BMW train were great fun.
