F23 + Jb4 + Afe = 13.37

I took my convertible M235i to MoKan raceway yesterday.
I had over half a tank of 91 and some stuff in the trunk of an already heavy car. Also had some wheel hop. I only ran it three time.

The only mods are AFE intake and the JB4 set on map 5.

Best 60' = 2.07 I don't think that's too bad.
Best 1/4 mile 13.37 seconds @ 102 mph. I'm a little surprised the speed isn't higher.

Time for a downpipe and an intercooler.

what was temp/elevation?
do you have 6mt or 8at? and im assuming rwd with Michelin PSS????

that does seem to be a pretty good 60' time so I'm wondering why the time/trap is not better. I thought ppl were getting high 12s with jb4. I wonder if the 91 octane and weight is enough to keep you from 12s at the moment.

The F23 (convertible) is about 375 pounds heavier than the F22, I know that seems like alot but it's what i've read.

The weater that day was sunny with a max temperature of 58F and an average humidity of 77%. The elevation is 981ft above sea level.

I'm about 240 pounds, time to hit the gym. The car is an 8 speed auto.

I launched from high idle in sport+ mode, not using launch control. I had so much wheel hop the first run that i had to let off. I let some air out of the back tires and that helped, still got a litte hop on the 3rd and final run.

The track it self seemed fairly sticky. The grandstands, bathrooms, parking lot, ect. was about the worst I've seen in 20 years. The racers were very friendly, track personal not so much. The fastest pass i saw was a 10.8, S10 pickup wih a 5.3 and slicks. Not very many people racing, staging lanes never more than 3 cars deep. I got there after the gates had been open for almost an hour and was car number 20. I liked the track well enough to drive the extra hour over Tulsa.

slow times. practice more and check tire pressures.

you should be getting under 2.0 60's.

I'm suprised 2.07 is a lousy 60ft time. I thought that was a reasonabe time for a RWD car on street tires. I guess I need to experiment with my technique.

I've ran a best 60ft time of 1.64 in my Syclone on street tires BTW.

I went back to the track today.

The oxygen density was over 1000ft better this weeked then last and the car had over a 1/4 tank less fuel in it. It looked like it was going to be a good day at the track.

I got way too much wheel spin on the first run, next 3 runs netted consistant 2.0 60ft times. All three of the decent passes were 0.5 second and 3 mph slower than my previous best. The car is definitly down on power.

I purchased the fuel from a station that I haven't used before. My thinking is that map 5 detunned the car for bad gas. Any ideas?

It's time to start data logging!

Back to the track.

I went to the track, but a lot has changed sense i went last.

Different track.
I didn't check the the oxygen density.
Added downpipe & intercooler. I put a gallon of E85 in with a 1/4 tank of 91.

Sport+ in drive form high idle. Anything more than high idle resulted in massive tire spin. Next time I will try launching in 2nd and manual shift. I might need to heat the tire more. Map 1, map 2 resulted in a very similar but slower time.

60ft = 2.028 I got this same time on my second best run too.
1/4 = 12.688 @ 109.61

I did not datalog, the car/JB4 doesn't like it. It give me drivetraine errors when in datalog. It's been suggested that the cable may be bad.

I'm sure that I'm octane limited at this time.

12.6@110mph is really nice for the mods and weight of the car. Have you considered running in DSC Off? It's the only mode where the eLSD is active and for at least my 6MT, the power is consistent in all gears and there's no nannies interfering. My car just feels like a different animal is DSC Off.

FYI, I used to drag race at Kansas City International Raceway (KCIR) and Mo/Kan. KCIR wasn't a "fast" track by any means, but my cars were always .2-.3 and 1-2mph slower at Mo/Kan in the same DA conditions. My prior Z28 was WILDLY faster and quicker when run at Houston Raceway Park compared to KCIR. I would expect that if you could run at one of the Northeast "wonder" tracks like Atco, E-town, Capitol, etc. where DA is often well below sea level in the Fall/Winter, you'd see 12.3ish@112mph with no changes.

Jet,

I've tried several driving modes but not DSC off, not yet at track. I need to learn to drive the car out of the hole. Every time that I experimented with my technique has resulted in massive wheel spin.

Currently I raise the rpm to a high idle (about 1400 but I don't really look at the tach) after everyone is staged and mash the throttle on the last yellow. This is in Sport+ mode. It's easy, consistent and doesn't feel abusive to car. This car is very heavy and I'm reasonably happy with 2.0 60ft times on street tires.

I don't think most people realize that the convertible M235i is 360lbs heavier than coupe. I find it hard to understand where all the extra weight is. 360lbs is equal to 8 - 45lb plates at the gym, that's a lot of metal. I have not actually put my car on the scales yet but all the specs that I have found say that it is 160kg to about 375lbs heavier than a non convertible.

Wow, that's the weight of two passengers! I was comparing curb weights of a manual M240i Coupe versus the M240i xDrive with the ZF 8-speed, and the awd version is 162 lb. heavier. I know it's not exactly apples-to-apples, but you can't get the manual trans with the xDrive.

When in converted my 98 Mitsubishi Spyder to AWD it gained 188lbs, exactly what I expected. The AWD Eclipse coupe was 188lbs heavier than the FWD coupe according to the book. If my memory is correct.

I did this because I wanted an AWD convertible turbo car but I could not justify purchasing one. Not very many manufactures offed AWD with their convertibles and Audi and Porsche did but they cost way too much.

The car drove much better and was loads more fun. Went 13.1 in 1/4 mile with basic bolt-ons and an EVO3 16G turbo.

I didn't purchase an X-drive this time because I didn't want the extra weight and complication, that and I wasn't exactly looking for a new car when i bought this one.

I went back to MoKan last Sunday.

I had 2 good runs.

The first two passes were my best. I later realized that I never raised the idle at the line, or if I did I don't remember doing it. Managed 1.99 and 1.98 60ft times leaving at idle with 41 & 38lbs of rear tire pressure. I tried experimenting with lower tire pressures and leaving with more RPM but that resulted in wheel hop and slower times.

Next year I will trailer the car with the R-compound tries on it and see how it does.

I need to try comfort driving mode, softer suspension and lower wheel spin threshold might result in lower 60th times. I also need to try manual shifting and leaving in 2nd gear.

Best pass.
60ft = 1.9861
1/4 = 12.6622 @ 111.63
