Car Magazine's M4 GTS Track Test

So, 1.33 seconds faster than the M3 CP around a 1:22 track. Considering that r-comps are worth ~1 second per minute lap, are we supposed to be impressed ?

I ride that track often (20min away, cheap entry) on my KTM 990 Superduke on Michelin PP 2CT's and do 1min16s. And I'm not particularly quick.
Apples to oranges but I would have hoped the M's would have been quicker. Also not sure when they tested the GTS and earlier the M4. The track gets dusty and pretty cold and slippery in winter, compared to reasonably grippy in summer. My friend has an NA 2.0l Golf (Rabbit) track car that runs 1min17's. Amazing how much 'road legal' and 'luxury' weight slows a car! |

You must choose to look elswhere to get impressed. Like auto bild or sportauto or others. They set the cars apart big time regarding laptimes.
I just thought this vid would would be nice to watch as Its not been posted here yet. Aswell I dont think this car was drop down to low tracksetting, Hence It dont look hunkerd down over the rear wheelarches as my car looks In pit at SPA.. Thats seconds lost there on track If you drive high streetsetting on GTS when on track. Also, considering It take ap. 40-60min to drop the car down. I guess someone wish he could turn his M4 to a GTS by putting on Michelin cup tires, but I will not happen.
Film below Is somehow giving us an ide that Its not as easy as a change of tire. Now this Is a Honda, but I guess Its simular progress in transforming M4 to M4 GTS. It aint gone happen with only rubber☺️ (Bottom speed=Vminimum) |
