BMW is preparing to upmarket m3/4 into another price level. Leaving the m2 doing what the m3 has been doing for decades. M2 will start at 60k within few short years.

Either way this pricing is horrible as it is. People who really know their stuff with 100-130k to spend on a car has a clear choice now. These people should thank BMW for making that choice easier for them

That's a good point - sort of the modern M5/6...

I mean come on, if you have a GT2-RS, you can stop and have a beer waiting on the M4 CS waiting to catch up. You wouldn't want anyone at the meet to see that.
What's going to happen with the 2+ yr gap between the F80 and G80, your lease is up with MSD's and a M3 CS is at MRSP on the lot. Do you walk away to P and let the MSD expire? Or do you bit the bullet? Only late MY 2017 lessers and onwards will have it timed for the new G80.

Can't believe how expensive the M3 Cs is...

Also, Alpha QV is starting to look nice now... Hehehehee
Go to Porsche website and spec out a civic 911, mine was over 108k and it was pretty low optioned.

I think all of these haters will realize what the GTS is/was years from now.
Maybe, but just because this happened 30 years ago doesn't mean it is guaranteed to happen again. Conditions/competition is/are probably completely different today compared to then. There are so many good cars out there to be had for 100k and less I don't think it is a slam dunk for the GTS.

In fact if you use the GTS as a gauge for the future M3/4 CS market it isn't good. I'm guessing a year after their release you will be able to find low mileage cars in the 80s and maybe less. Maybe it will reverse and they will gain their value back, but I'm not sure there are a lot of people willing to sit on a car for 10, 20 or 30 years. There are far better investments and easier ways to make money. Resale and overall value do not compute with these cars anymore. It just comes down to if you really like them then get it.

At least the M3/4 CS are gorgeous cars (the best looking so far in the lineup) compared to the not so much GTS IMO.

You are right, but you are playing the loyalty card with what you said. There are so much better choices in that price range than these m3/4 cs'.

It must be nice to live in the parallel universe of a Porsche fanboy... where it's unacceptable for an m240i to not come with a LSD, but no mention of the base 911 which doesn't have one either

It’s not just bmw go to mb.

I recently got lease numbers for a GLC43 AMG low option for my mom 67k and it was close to 1000 a month close to min drive off (2,500), 36 months 10k miles. I can get a 48k GLC300 in the 500 a month range, the poser amg is stupid expensive.

We can agree/disagree with pricing and justifiability ... rest assured, all will be spoken for in the US at sticker or above.
If you don't need or desire rear seats ...the M4 GTS does seem like a good buy

Not to get too off track, but I'll never understand people who go on and on about how awesome the C63 AMG interior is. I sat in one when they dropped at the LA auto show... it was the chintziest, most plasticky dog sht for a $90K car interior I've seen consistent with everything MB has released below the S-class as of late.

That gauge cluster looks to be straight off an A-class taxi. The silver carbon junk won't age well. Look at any 5-year old Benz. Junk. BMW... Much better state.

as for the 911 comparo... I can find a lightly used manual shift 991.1 GTS from an enthusiast seller at around $115K all day. that is way more car than any F8X. way more.

What. No lsd ?

That changes it for me. Does the S have LSD?

I have a civic m3 so not really. Need those 2 doors in the back and the "trackability".

There are now civic and accord with the CS and GTS up top though.

So true.

They trick your eyes with the center overlay wood and air vents. Go to the surfaces on the side and look at the back seat areas and it is shit hard plastic.

Fooled a lot of people.

Yup, you've got to step up to the S for the LSD. It is really incredible.

You can barely buy a base, amish edition 911 for the price of the CS.

Agreed about the MB interiors. When I got a chance to check them out I was very disappointed. Especially after all of the hype.

That is the problem I see with BMW's pricing with the CS and GTSs. If you can afford 100k plus you can afford the extra to get a better car. The M3CS is a bit unique because of the 4 door aspect, but it is still over priced. BMW is banking on their loyal fan base and gouging the s$%! out of them. It makes me wonder how long and how much of a loyal fan base will be left after a while.

[sarcasm off]
Its about value. If Porsche released a $69k 911 "even-more-amish" edition that had roughly 95%+ of the performance of current base Carrera, the enthusiast community would lineup outside their nearest Porsche dealership to buy one. But that model doesn't exist, so instead you have the base Carrera serving as the entry level model with a $100k price tag. And you're right - it doesn't evoke much excitement does it?

Yet, here BMW is presenting the M3 CS and asking people to get excited about it's $100k price tag. Ok, well, if you are excited about this car at that price, then you should be through-the-roof ecstatic that you can get a standard M3 with - you guessed it - about 95% of the performance for 2/3 the price. Even better - you can order one today. And furthermore, instead of facing dealer markup, you can negotiate a discount.

Quote:
Fortunately this car will be purchased by people interested in M3s and performance, not posers who would prefer to hard park their car and use the badge on the hood as a proxy for the length of some body parts
Will it? In my experience, the likelihood for badge whoring goes up as the performance/$ ratio goes down. Just my opinion and my take.

we're talking about hard earned $s. who the hell cares if it's new or not? a used 991.1 GTS is a much smarter buy than a new CS.

build how you want it? porsche invented it with the 997/991 gen. bmw M is cookie cutter in comparison.
