Hi - i have recently bought an E92 335i Coupe - it is the SE model but ive had the full M Sport body kit fitted and it has the M Sport suspension. However, i just feel that the ride height could be lowered a little more to compliment the body kit etc and i was considering Eibach or H&R spring kits. But then i spoke to a tuning company this morning and they told me NOT to mess with the suspension, esp if i had the M Sport set up, as they had had a number of customers have big problems with tyre wear and camber issues??? They said that at least 3 customers were getting less than 3,000 miles out of their tyres!! I also ride sports bikes so i know how that feels! But anyway, i would appreciate any advice from members here as to whether they had suffered any such issues when lowering their 335's. Also - if i do decide to lower it with a spring kit, which is the better to go for, the Eibach or H&R?? Ive heard that H&R lower the car more. And finally, i was thinking of putting spacers on to give the car a slightly wider stance - any thoughts on this??? Many thanks in advance.

Sounds weird to me since lots and lots of people in here was lowered their e90 and e92, but I never read anything about extreme tyrewear like that. With that said it's important to get an alignment after a drop.

Do you know if the tyrewear was in the front or rear?

As remmib says, if you get the alignment done after fitting the tyre wear should be the same as before.

I had H&R Euro Race springs on my E90 and no problems with tyre wear. My mate had the same springs on his E92 again with no issues...

I also had Eibach spacers - 8mm on the front and 12mm on the rear and really helped fill out the wheel arches. Again, I suffered no problems

You are hearing it from the horses mouth. We have owned the cars and done the mods you are contemplating - I say go for it!

I wouldnt have gone to the lenghts of fiting a M-sport kit to an se. Bloody hell what will happen at re-sale time?! Its on the book as an SE but with sport kit fitted, Lots of people will run a mile! You should have fitted a Aero front spoiler if you wanted a more aggressive front end?

'booforty' - I'd be interested to hear how the changes to your suspension effected the ride (might be a daft question). Obviously there is the lowering effect but does it make the ride firmer/subtler, etc. What are the costs roughly associated with your mods??

The ride is much firmer than M-Sport but the handling improves significantly and with very little body roll. It took some getting used to but was pleased with the ride in the end. I'd carried family and grandparents with no complaints...

Got the springs from Roy at CA-Automotive for £150. Asked a trustworthy mechanic to fit them (about an hour and a half's labour). The spacers I can't remember the cost but no more than £150. You need to get longer wheel nuts too, which are cheap. Again Roy can sort you with prices for everything you need.

Thanks for that. I've often woundered why my wheels appear to be inset from the arch -spacers being the obviously the answer. Those springs are probably too firm for me though.

Try spacers first, very cheap and easy to fit

Koni adjustable shocks and Eibachs on my old E46 M3 and no issues whatsoever.

As has been said, the key is to have the geometry set up again after a few hundred miles when all is settled in. If you dont, then yes, it will handle like a pig.

NO problem when re-calibrated.

After lowering my E92 coupe w/ h&r springs, my steering rack broke and the RF strut gave out. Only after 1500 miles of use.

You will be the only case I've heard of with that issue, out of the hundreds of people running similar setups. My first thought would be you had a problem there anyway, exacerbated by increasing stress on those parts with the lowering kit.
