330D Induction
Alright folks,
Does anyone know of any company who does an induction kit for E90 330D???? Also any carbon engine covers/airboxs. I've been looking for ages and can't find anything |

We do a Performance intake for the 330d:
http://shop.speedreligion.net/air-intake-93-c.asp It is not possible to fit a 'normal' cold air intake like some cars as the 330d's air filter sits along the whole side of the engine and only draws air though the large enough sized 'snorkel' from the grille area... We have tried a whole range of air intakes for the 330d and find the K&N to produce the best benefits at a very cost effective price. We have them in stock and are available for next day delivery if ordered through the website. Have a look around, 330d's are our speciality and not many other people know them inside and out like us... Anthony. |

The K&N offers greater airflow into the engine with less resistance. This does not mean that it allows more air in exactly, but it does directly improve volumetric efficiency, thus increasing mpg and allowing the engine to have more unrestricted air... removing restriction/improving efficiency is what tuning is all about, so with modern diesels, more power (bhp) can also mean more efficiency (mpg).
The change in mpg is evident all through the rev range and also shows an improvement of the engines willingness to rev toward to red line and also slightly reduces the turbo spool up time. It is a noticeable modification that is very cost effective and can be swapped to further vehicles as the K&N is a serviceable item that carries a 1,000,000 mile warranty. When you sell the car, simply remove it, put your current one back in and as the fitment is the same for any 3.0L d engine that BMW have ever made from 1999 to present day, from the first 184hp E46 330d's to the current E90 330d's, 325d's, X5's, X3's, 525d's, 530d's, 730d's etc etc. When the air intake is combined with our free flowing performance exhaust, with either larger 330 style tips or our 335d twin exit system, increases of around 5 mpg are seen and the engine will rev to 5000 rpm like a petrol engine car. You will definitely notice the difference. |

Well, I'm doing it as we speak...............pretty easy and logical, however.........
Last from bottom pic - what the hell are those bolts? They look like a star shaped socket should fit it - not a BMW tool is it? Just of to Halfords to find one!! |

Thankfully they have sorted the airbox out in the 335d and the new 330d.
It is now a simple box at the front of the engine bay that is opened by 4 spring clips. You could change the filter in about a minute. I remember putting a K&N into my E46 330cd and it took ages.

Right all done!
Those bolts above on my car need star sockets, available from Halfords. Make damn sure you put the air filter in the right way up else the cover wont go back on, took me a while to figure this out, Also helps if you loosen the strut brace bolts each side to get better access. Quite a tricky job, but I managed it - thanks for the instructions Ant, I'd never have got near it otherwise!! |

Feels a tad more responsive - hardly surprising when the OEM filter resembles a sheep
Not a major difference but it all helps!! |
