163bhp vs 177bhp real world MPG

I'm wondering what the real world MPG is on the previous E90 engine vs. the current efficient dynamics version on a 320d manual ?

I've got an original E90 320d as a company car and get a steady 40 MPG.

I do 2,500 miles a month so I estimate on the official figures the difference could be £40-£50 on fuel at current prices. Not sure what it would be really though

F**k all.

Seriously, wouldn't be worth worrying about, maybe 4 mpg??

Autos make a huge difference, but speaking to people who have had both it seems to be around 4mpg at most.

Would cost you thousands to change so could take maybe 10 years ro recoup the costs doing 30k miles a year.

Strangely enough I tested mine yesterday:

Same 10 mile journey, A roads, B roads, steep country lanes etc, 1st run drove like a tw*t: 2nd run very conservative, followed the displays recommended gear selections, kept the rpm's as low as possible. (there was a reasonable amount of weight in the boot for both runs)

1st run 43.8mpg - 36.7mph average
2nd run 49.5mpg - 35.5mph average

So (correct me if im wrong) based on a 60ltr tank, it eqautes to roughly a 68.4 miles per tank extra driving as per the efficient dynamics gear selections and being as conservative with the power as possible.

The car has only done 3k miles so far. I dont think my 06 320d E90 was much more efficient, I still seem to be getting the same overall miles per tank, say 550ish?

Hope this helps

I'm getting 42 - 46 mpg with mixed driving. This goes up considerably on a long motorway run. My 335i used to do 23 - 26 mpg (which along with high CO2 and Company car tax made me decide to go for the 320d)

My old pre-ED 320d manual did about 44mpg over 35k miles. I had an ED 320d as a courtesy car once, it seemed to get closer to 50mpg on a run, driving it gently. Not a huge difference but I guess it would add up in time.

How is the Spider box overall (sorry for the thread jack), as the MPGs seem to be pretty good given the hike in power?

Dropped off my old e91 320d MSport Tourer and picked up my new e91 320d MSport Tourer Edition yesterday.

On my old e91 I left the computer to run right the way through to 90,000 miles without any resets and on my 163 e91 and got 40.9mpg over that whole 34 months. Mixture of motorway and fast A road driving.

400 miles in less than 24 hours (I had to route from Essex > Norwich > Cheltenham > Coventry > Cheltenham) with normal type of routes I did the 90,000 miles on and am getting 45.3mpg on my new 177bhp ED model.

So far stacking up with Gizze's comments.

Drove from cardiff to exeter today:

Down: 56.5 MPG, 60.4 MPH average (careful conservative driving)

Back: 47.8 MPG, 64.3 MPH aveage (heavy right foot, higher speeds)

Although the route back up the M5 is more of an 'up hill' journey so to speak.

Engine is starting to loosen up now, and IMO there is a definite improvement in top end power compared to 163 engine, it just seems to pull and pull?

Current car is the 320d 177bhp ED engine
