Levels of Wheels inside Wheel Arches

Hello again

I'm back . . . with more problems

This time its the wheels inside the arches, I know I mention it here and there in other peoples posts but I thought I'd throw it into its own post.

My back right wheel sits practically touching the inside of the wheel arch whereas the back left wheel has a bit of space between it and the wheel arch.

I will upload a picture or two soon, any ideas, does everyone's back wheels look pretty even when the car is on level ground ?

I'm running on the 19" M-Sport jobs, if you didn't already know that by now

The height of the wheels is measured from the bottom of the rim to the underside of the wheel arch. Anything less than 10mm is, apparently normal.

It's happened to me and I got palmed off with that. Not really the dealer's fault, they are carrying out BMW instructions.

Could be the ground you are sitting on, the land is rarely prectly horizontal.

I had 13mm difference on my Golf (lots of measurements taken is various locations), went into VW they said it was 3.5mm (laser check on the ramps) which was within the 7mm tolerance.

Its really hard to tell unless you can get it on very flat ground, exact same pressure in both tyres and then measure from an exact spot (upper most) on the rim, or even better from the exact centre of the wheel.

also how much fuel is in the tank,not sure if that will make a diff.

your not alone in noticing this , im pretty obcessed with it as well recently. Im sure the car sits strangely at the back

doesnt seem to be affected by ground level etc. I hadnt thought about the fuel tank , i would of thought it would have been fairly central though for their 50:50 weight distribution BMW are allways banging on about in their brochures.

I agree (again) Chris - Mine defo is lower on one side than the other and fuel seems to make little difference (always empty as the missus drives it a lot lately

)

Not measured it as I know it will bug me if I do

Just to see

would you say it is the side of the petrol tank ? Drivers side ?

Mine sits noticeably lower at the back on this side.

mine was at Berry chiswick the other day for this exact symptom! I noticed it when getting the allingment done at feltham tyre centre, whats weird is that over time the difference seems to level out! leave car for an hour an the difference in mine is less than 10mm difference between them, being 3cm before. Well unless its an illusion and the dealer has palmed me off

mine just constantly sits a bit lower on the right hand side at the back

and I heard on 'ere that the tank is a split self levelling job, so that rules that one out !
