BIMMERPOST NEWSAutoexpress previews the 2012 F30 3-series sedan and 2014 F32 M3 coupe Not much info is new here, but their renders are a fun look at what the next generation F30 and F32 3-series and M3 may resemble. Consistent with what we have posted in the past, the front fascia features a more upright angle, consistent with BMW's current designs seen in the Z4, 5-series and 7-series. The F30/F32 3-series is also expected to be slightly larger in size, but with shorter front and back overhangs. Next generation 3-series engine options will include a full range of turbo and naturally aspirated 6-cylinder motors, 4-cylinder motors, and possibly even a new 3-cylinder motor. The F30/F32 M3 is rumored to be lighter than the current M3 and will be powered by a twin turbo 6-cylinder engine, good for possibly 450hp approximately. The F30 3-series sedan will make its world public debut at the 2012 Geneva Autoshow in March of 2012. The F32 coupe will be unveiled a year later in 2013. The F32 M3 coupe (indications are there will not be an F30 M3 sedan) is expected to debut sometime in 2014. Not really digging the renders. I hope they come out a lot better looking. The only thing I do like is the mid body design on that rendered M3. The front doesnt really look too good in my opinion. Better get the E92 M3 before its gone.

It's back to the pre-bangle era. BMW was often criticized for having a "one sausage, 3-lengths" design philosophy. Under Chris Bangle e90, e60 etc, the three cars were quite different and people hated that too. They've returned to more conservative styling with the 7-series and the new 5-series and IMO they look great. For the f30 to be a mini-me version of the new 7 and 5 is not a bad thing in my book.

The latest "Auto motor und sport" had a article about the F30 also. They made a point of that it willnot be any natural aspirated six on the next generation. Just six cylinder with turbo, and a whole scale of 4 cylinder turbos which will replace the 325 and 330. I sure will miss the 330 six.
This is a pic I took with my mobile. |

Those look fantastic. Love it. There's nothing wrong with one sausage 3 lengths, as long as they each have something unique about them. Having a singular and clearly defined design language is a good thing. Loving the 5-serie influences.

Such as it is, this rendering looks more appealing than what I've seen of the new 6 series. (The "old" M6 was stunning, imho, and to heck with what the pundits say.) Of course, all BMWs look better in person. The new 550i for example looks much better than the photos suggest. (Maybe the E92 M3 is the exception, because they photograph so well.)
If these illustrations are true here, it seems that proportion-wise BMW is giving the M some of that thick-body look of the reborn Mustang, Charger, Camaro. But will the new M3 have the note? What kind of rawr! can we expect from an über-turbo straight six 3.0? I've had a 335 turbo straight six 3.0, and it was very nice but it did not have much of a note of note (muffler notwithstanding).
