My only issue with the GTR is that it doesn't come with mt from the factory.
The M3 paired with the SC.. you're looking at 600+ WHP.

M4 will have the S55 (twin turbo built N55).
If money weren't an issue, I'd have an Alpha 12 GTR, but if I'm looking to keep it under $100k... I might consider an E92 M3 with the stage 3 SC... should be good for 700whp and a lot of fun... plus you just can't beat that tuned V8 noise at 8,000 rpm. ![]() The E9x M3 will be special forever... the only V8 powered M3 to ever exist... |

They're two completely different cars in every aspect, you can't really compare the two.
One is a supercar eater and the other is a luxury sports car. Both are very capable in the right hands on the track, but they're just leagues different in terms of performance and luxury. The GT-R doesn't feel very luxurious inside, whereas the E9X and undoubtedly the upcoming M3/M4 will be seething in leather and luxury. The GT-R walks over the M3 on the track and in every performance figure. I'm fairly certain this will be true for the upcoming M3/M4 as well, since it still only has 415 BHP. Torque figures won't save you when you're at a 100+ BHP difference. I also think the GT-R is quite good looking, I don't know why you don't like it but to each his own I suppose. It has a very distinct stance that I've fallen in love with. But just know that a 535 BHP stock GT-R + 10k in mods = demolish just about any other car on the roads. However, if you enjoy screaming engines with a high RPM redline, you can't overlook the M3. Supercharging it will be a hassle at times, but you'll be smiling ear to ear when you hear it at 8k RPM. So like I said - it comes down to what you ultimately want and are willing to sacrifice. GT-R = not so great looks (in your opinion), but it's fast as hell and attracts attention. M3 = luxurious and a screamer with 2 actually usable seats in the back, but lacks power vs. the GT-R. Good luck.

I am also interested in a GTR in the next year. However, I am not comparing it to the M3 or any other luxury sports car. I was able to drive a 2010 on the track in Joliet and drove a 2012 on the streets and for a quick blast on the interstate last October. Nothing I have driven (except for a modified 911 Turbo) compares to a GTR

Not even in the same league. You want luxury buy the M3. You want speed buy the GTR.
I am not for the argument of adding a supercharger to the M3 to get 600 hp, because quite frankly thats still NOT going to touch the GTR for speed comparisons. Adding power to a RWD will just do what you assume, no traction.. I just sold my 2013 GT500 with over 600 RWHP and if I were to race a 2012 or 2013 GTR it would dust me from 0-100. Roll racing, I win... But I am to old now to do 150mph on public roads... The GTR is so bad ass its probably a reason why Toyota never brought back the Supra even after all the talks of maybe doing so. I mean how can they, or Acura with the NSX ever compete with this car or Mazda and the Rx7. Get the GTR. They run 10's from the factory now and have decent enough interior to get you through your time with the car. |

Thank you guys, I have been torn for a while and I will have to think about it some more. I am leaning towards the GTR, I understand they are two different cars and I have to figure out how oftern will I be driving like a maniac and how often I am going to track to buy the GTR. Regarding looks, I guess its just a matter of opinion but I find BMW to be much better looking than GTR stock. I guess with some exterior modificatoin the GTR could get there.

Wait for the M4! It will be much more moddable than the e92 M3 since it's a twin turbo. I bet after 6 months to a year of release, there will be a tune and some mods for the new M4 that puts down 500 crank HP, easy.

I seriously don't understand this whole GTR thing. It's just "a nissan" after all. Does brand mean nothing to people these days? It's the same way why Lexus is just "a lexus". Does anyone pick any IS-F model over BMW? It doesn't matter if it does 0-60 in 1.0s, an M3 will always be an M3, same way a Porsche will always be a Porsche. The only people who will go for the GTR is the people who are into 0-60 times on paper and who love racing at red lights. Once you go pass that and reach to the next maturity level though, you see what the BMW is all about - brand name and luxury and you won't look back to any other Japanese car, other than DDs!

Do you know that (for example!) in a BMW:
- the engine ECU is made by Siemens - the seats are made by Recaro - the windscreen wipers are from Bosch - the tires are from Pirelli - the transmission is made by ZF - the windows are from AGC Glass - the steering wheel is from XYZ - the sound system is from XYZ or Harman Kardon - the lights are from Bosch - the fuel tank is made by someone else - etc etc... Any car today is just the combination of hundreds of different parts that were made by hundres of different manufacturers, and these manufacturers supply to different car brands. So away with fanboyism, because it doesn't make sense these days. Besides, in another thread, you were just recently bashing BMW, how they dear to expect you to give up your E90 M3 for a F80 M3, without any HP gain. So where's the brand loyalty now ? |

I test drove a GT-R before I bought my M3. The GT-R is an animal. The interior is cheap compared to the M3. I wanted a more practical car. I like that I can fold down the backseats to carry things in a pinch. I think looks wise they are about the same. I also did not want to get into the rat race of modding my car. It is so easy to mod GT-Rs. For a few grand you can add 200+ HP. For a few grand you can add 40+ HP to a M3. I don't understand where you can even drive a car that fast. I can't open up my M3 in the city. I look at the GT-R as pointless. There is no where you can really open it up. I also like RWD vs AWD. It is fun to let the back ass slip out. In the end I want luxury over a rocket that I can't use except at a track.

On topic, GTR>M3 by a mile. They are both performance cars, and in performance they are two or three classes apart. I can't wait to see the M4! Also about daily driving ability, or storage, I'd hope you all have multiple cars and neither of these are your only car. |

Photoguy, not sure what your implying but whatever. Just because its a BMW, it doesnt make it the best car out there. Remember the Supra? Well it is a Toyota but why was it such a beast of a car... we can go on. I will be keeping my 2011 e90 awd as a DD and the M3 or the GTR willl be used mainly for weekend driving and track use. I dont drive like a maniac but I do have some fun here and there in the mountains. It will be a hard decision but I am waiting until I see the 2014 M3 in person and go from there.

GTR is not the same as an M3/M4.
I can understand those who like them. I just think they are ugly and overpriced. For GTR money I'd but a Porsche GT3

Personally I would not get a GTR. Since, most of the time, you'll be daily driving. I think for everyday tasks, a true GT car is always better (e.g., going to dinner, dates, etc.)
