Will the m3 have a sliding armrest

Ok so I am quite disturbed to learn that F30's in the U.S have NO sliding armrest as even an option!! This is a complete deal breaker for me. I know the e9x M3 has it and a lot of the regular e9x non-M do not but I still thought it was an option in the non-M wasn't it?

Things like this annoy me. For their biggest market they can't throw in a sliding armrest and then not even make it optional???

For guys who sit a bit forward in position there is nowhere to rest your elbow without it sliding forward. It is a must have on my current m3. Craziness.

It may sound strange, but it is the smallest details that usually cause customers to look elsewhere.

As far as I know it's never been an option on non-Ms (at least not in the US) I've never seen any non-M BMW with a sliding armrest.

LOL, thats what I was thinking! Something so trivial and small can be a deal breaker on a $80-85K car??

well not if you use it as a daily driver with a lot of freeway miles. It is downright uncomfortable without the armrest and yes would be a dealbreaker unless I could order it from EU.

But it really makes no sense. I would love to hear ONE single good reason for a company to not provide an armrest slider to America. I mean cost savings? Ok well make it a paid option.

Other than that its just bizarre.

It also depends on how you drive perhaps but I like to cruise on the freeway with both hands on the wheel and elbows resting on the left armrest on the door and the right armrest slider. Without the slider my elbow would not be able to sit there and keep my hand on the wheel

So BMW builds and amazing M3 and you won't buy it bec it does not have a sliding arm rest.....

However, it will most likely have it or if it is a Euro option only, I am sure you can get one shipped.

As I said the m3 will be and currently is my daily driver. I have a seperate weekend and track car. To have a daily driver that is not comfortable for me is silly when there are many to choose from. If I could only afford one car then perhaps I would be more relaxed.

Frankly with the new m3 going turbo, it has nothing special over most of the competition at this point. Dual clutches are everywhere, turbo engines are everywhere etc. Sure I am sure I will like it and want to have it as a DD but if you spend freeway time as I stated I dont want to dangle my arm uncomfortably. If it was my weekend car than not a problem

Well, worry about a probability of numb electric steering on a new M - not this. However at least this should be an option.

It is important to understand how manufacturing and economies of scale work in order to keep things in proper perspective. In short, the more ways that your car is just like everyone else's, the cheaper it is to build any particular car. Generally speaking, any time you add a variation to the produciton process you increase costs. It may not be by much, but each little option or feature adds up. You want your sliding armrest, Joe Schmoe wants a fancier foot rest, and Sandy wants a latte warmer and makeup applicator. Pretty soon you've added another 5% to the costs which must be passed on to the consumer. Our limited option list here in North America is at least in some part responsible for the fact that we have some of the least (if not the very least) expensive car prices in the world.

Speaking of bizarre, that's peculiar indeed, at least in my experience. Perhaps there is something about living and driving in the big city on a day to day basis that tends to cause one to adapt their driving posture and habits in ways that I cannot comprehend (that is, assuming you live in or near NYC as your screen name would suggest). At any rate, I would venture to guess that the manner in which you drive is somewhat atypical, and that it may very well be that precious few Americans are therefore demanding the sliding armrest feature be made optional in their cars. That's just my theory though.

I use mine on long freeway trips, but it cetainly wouldn't be a deal breaker for it not to have one.

Must have been at one time since my 2000 528I had a sliding arm rest. Wouldn't be a deal breaker for me or even a annoyance. But hey whatever floats your boat.

Really? You're more high maintenance than my ex wife!!!

But just so I understand...you want a proper sports car, but you don't want to drive with both hands on the wheel, and your legs/arms (or maybe you don't have any???) are too short for you to sit far enough back so your elbow will contact the armrest, so that's why you need a place to rest your elbow?

Good think I'm not someone from whom you'd try to buy a car because knowing the above, I'd just as soon you be Audi's problem. You sound like you'll be way more drama than you'll be worth as a customer, unless you can show me you are the leader of a swarm of people who are just like you and they are all going to buy a car from me.

Seriously, though, can't you just put your hand in your lap and entertain yourself? What do you do with that elbow in chairs that don't have armrests? Surely you can do the same thing in the car....

That's only true for folks who

• Have no interest in the important aspects of the car, not the least of which is the car itself
• Have some single important aspect of the car they don't like so they are quibbling over little thing too
• Folks who don't really want the thing in the first place.

Everybody else may or may not notice those details, but they want the car more than they don't want this or that little detail.
