Cool BMW M4 Convertible Prototype Completes the Trifecta

BMW M4 Convertible Prototype Completes the Trifecta

This F83 M4 convertible spotted yesterday completes the M3/M4 trifecta.

As one can see, the F83 M4 will generally share the M4 coupe and M3 sedan's aero parts (and mechanicals). Even the trunk, which is of the automatically opening variety (to store the hardtop), appears to feature a similar CSL style curve. Parts such as the front/rear bumpers and mirrors may appear different than the M4 coupe, but that's due to the heavier camouflage which the M4 convertible still retains.

The one clear difference is that the M4 convertible features a different roof -- in the form of a non-carbon fiber folding hardtop. It will operate and fold in the same manner we're used to seeing on the E93 M3 convertible. We stitched together earlier spy photos for a preview video (reposted below).

This particular convertible M4 also appears to have traditional front seat, as opposed to the single piece sports seats seen in yesterday's M4 coupe and M3 sedan prototypes.

Unlike the M4 coupe and M3 sedan, the M4 convertible will not see its debut in January at the Detroit show, but later in 2014.

4 Series Folding Hardtop in Action

F81 touring would make it a quadfecta

I can dream, right?

As with the E93, the look of the car is ruined with the roof up, thanks to the roof to trunk lid shape.. I don't think this will be a great looking car.

Roof up = _|. Just looks bad like all 3-series convertibles of recent memory have looked.

Where is the wagon version?
No line up can be complete without the wagon variant

No, it'll be later than that. Probably not until the spring.

Also, that's a lot of body roll for what looks like a slow-speed turn.

Careful. Keep asking for more versions and soon BMW will cave to its own temptations and release the F86 Gran Touring M3.

*shudder*

Yeah, I would most likely go for that over an m2 GC too, it would be so rare.

Then for sure, it will kill GT sales. Which is next to the ugliest thing on earth.

This just doesn't look as nice as the M4. It looks like the cabin is taller, more M3 height rather than the lower roof line like the standard M4.

Technically that would make a pentafecta. Because of the Gran Coupe. But yeah, that would be amazing.

Ugh, whomever came up with these "GT" cars needs to be fired, and whomever green-lighted their production needs to be reprimanded. The "take-rates" on wagons would be much better if they would offer engine, transmission and drivetrain combo's that people want.
