Last time I went 6 MT, this time I'll try DCT to see what it's all about.

Side note, notice the larger, ceramic iDrive knob in the DCT picture below. If you don't get that Technology or Executive package that has that, you get the down market iDrive edition.

No! Every 2014+ 3/4 Series with the new NBT nav has the larger Touchpad controller (..and it isn't ceramic).

Tiff needell is awesome!

6mt is the way to go. I could give up a second or two (if even that much) to have more fun at the track.

That pic cant be an m3 though. Surprised no one said anything about the ELECTRIC HAND BRAKE. Are we driving vws now??

It eliminates parts. The germans like to reduce everything to the simplest form. Who needs a drum brake inside the rears? Electric parking brake simply engages the rear caliper with a small motor, likely the same motor as ABS and traction control.

Reasons to get Manual:
1) 1M derived transmission. Anyone who has driven this car knows the Manual is amazing in it.
2) Weight savings - this car is going to be all about being as light as possible.
3) More Fun - I've had the DCT for 5 years now, a manual car never loses its fun factor
4) Everything will eventually be DCT. The CEO of porsche said that within 7 years all their cars will be PDK only. It's a dying breed and this has the potential to be a great manual car.

Yep get a manual as we will likely be telling stories about rowing gears in the future.

I have DCT now at it works very well and you still feel in control.. That said, I would get the 6MT M4 for reasons above. My teenage kids all drive manual and as a group they haven't had a single accident or citation in 10 cumulative years (knock on wood), which I think speaks to the benefit of driving manual and interacting with the car and driving experience. Plus, it reduces texting while driving.

Given that this is likely last of the breed, I'll be getting manual.

So are the shift throws shorter than my e92 M if its like the 1M? Is the clutch feel different too, or is that something we won't know until later?

I don't think it reduces texting while driving. These new cars are so freaking easy to drive. You can leave it 3rd and drive around town texting away. You can start from a traffic light without even using the gas - just put it in 1st and the car adds gas so you don't stall. With 400 ft/lb you can start on a hill in SF in 2nd with no drama.

From the Top Car (South Africa) article:

Quote:
The manual (12kg lighter than the unit it replaces) is a reinforced version of the 1M's box but is claimed to shift just as sweetly thanks to a new carbon friction linings in its synchroniser rings.

Cheers.

Thats great because I know what "sweetly" means!!! LOL I heard that the 1M shifts great, but unfortunately only very few people drove the thing. So thats why I was asking more specifically. Thanks though

No wrong choice -- nice we have a choice as opposed to some Porsches, Jags, etc.

It will be my first DCT car. It's a tough choice but I feel the car will be tune to work best with the DCT. I have read several magazines that state the f10m isn't well suited to the 6mt.

My guess is that the 1M is a much better reference to the F8X than the F10 M5. If not I'll be deeply disappointed.
