Arrow F80 M3 scale weight - 3562 lbs (no driver, full tank, 6MT, CF roof, 19" wheels)

BIMMERPOST NEWS
F80 M3 scale weight (3562 lbs) vs. E90 M3 scale weight (3736 lbs)

With the different methods of weight measurement used for the US and EU markets, there's been some confusion as to the actual weight of the F80 M3 / F82 M4 (versus the published weights), even after our recent interview.

Luckily, Axis of Oversteer got their hands on a F80 M3 and put it on the scale. It weighed in a 3562 pounds.

This weight was measured with a full tank (60 liters / 15.9 gallons) and without driver. Options include: standard (non-ceramic) brakes, carbon fiber roof, 6 speed manual transmission, 19" wheels, LED headlights, HUD, and HK audio.

Update: Axis of Oversteer also recently had a E90 M3 on the same scale and it weighed in a 3736 lbs (fully optioned, DCT, full tank, no driver) - 174 lbs heavier than the F80 M3. On the same scale, a E92 3 Series weighed in at 3585 lbs (no sunroof, manual transmission).

At last, a real-world data point. Thanks Jason.

I believe we saw similar real-world weights for an E90 M3, no? I'll have to see if I can find any old threads.

Thanks for posting. A first real data point.

Any clues on the included options and equipment? Is the weight with or without driver?

Good info. But I'm still curious what options were included or omitted, aside from the CCB. Also, how does the weight compare to the M4? I'd like to know how much weight I'm REALLY saving by going with a coupe and 6MT. I was also under the impression the 19" wheels were forged (probably dreaming) but what is the weight savings or penalty in going with this option, which I'm sure more than 33% of the US market will order...

I want to know how much fudging BMW marketing did about the numbers in the end I'm guessing it won't make much difference in terms of performance or anything. But then, what would we talk about while we waited?

and, if this is the YMB car that has been running around California, it could be a non-production car with non-final parts. It is good to know how much that car weights. We will need to revalidate when customer cars are available.

That's just right between the official EU curb weights of 1595kg and 1635kg for the M3 with MT 6 and DCT respectively.

OK - so then I am not overly impressed!

German SportAuto magazine regularly weights the test cars:
No driver, full tank.

So - if you look here (Test M3 E92 with DCT and full tank), you see, that M3 E92 DCT weighted 1640kg/3613lbs.

To do the F80 a favour here, I expect that it has been weighed WITH DCT also.
But then we talk about a difference of 22,7kg/50lbs!
Nothing to get overexcited, ÍMHO?

Depends on if the driver is included in the F80 weight in the OP here. If the 3562lbs is without the driver then the difference isn't that big I agree.

If 3562lbs is a F80 MT 6 and driver, then it's just around what BMW has said.

More like 75lbs if comparing similar optioned e90 to f80.

Now add 24lb to 75 because both 6MT and new manual is lighter. So looking a little better in weight dept.

Why?
I am comparing DCT to DCT model - and there the F8x weight saving doesn't shine!
And to your first response regarding "equally equipped cars":
I have read the test of Sport Auto (which I linked) and saw all the photos of the test. The E92 M3 in this test was already "fully optioned":
I.e.:
- DCT
- Big Navi&/Audio
- PDC
- 19 Inch and adaptive dampers

So imho - there is no option missing, which adds significantly weight!

I stay to my statement:
Comparing equally equipped F8x to E9x M3 WITH DCT, there is no huge weight saving visible!

Oh boy - now I am shocked.
Where is all that weight saving gone, we are being told the last year?

And this was a production spec model?

Gotta say that it's heavier than it "should" be...

Yes you are comparing DCT to DCT but when you do your math the actual weight posted was for a 6MT f80. Not the actual weight of a DCT f80. If I am incorrect, I apologize but that is what it looks like.
