So m4 with a tune would really pull away from B3...but stock for stock close.

Wow, if you look at the first gear change that m4 sweeps through the rev band super quick.

why did the alpina almost halt acceleration at around 2000 rpm? (look at the rpm gauge and u will see what I mean). That killed the race for it.

Interesting. That m somehow seems to just get up and go quicker. But defiantly would love to see what a nice tune would do on an m4.

Send a message via Skype™ to M-terkait
maybe if the B3 had a better Trans( M-dct ) _OR_ had the equivalent weight as M4
( i believe the M4 is 100kg lighter) they would end up as tie.

Alpina is a small volume manufacturer, not an aftermarket supplier/tuner.

Seems to be about a second behind above 100kph, which is pretty big at those speeds. Several carlengths.

Phrase it how you want but the Alpina runs an engine from the BMW factory but with a tune different (here, more aggressive) than that of the factory. If the M4 were to be in the same category, and thus be equipped with a tune more aggressive than that from the BMW factory, this race would not be as close. Nevertheless, this video goes to show that the Alpina is damn fast.

The B3 is not an engine from BMW factory with an aggressive tune. It has a different turbo setup and cooling system, much the same way the M4 engine also has a different turbo setup and cooling system compared to an N55, but in a different way.

The M4 engine produces less torque at lower rpms and more torque at higher rpms compared to the B3 bi-turbo engine. It would be fair to assume that the B3 engine runs higher boost than the M4 engine, but is less de-throttled. I wouldn't know if the turbos are actually the same though. They could also have been taken from the N54 engine I guess...

Little known facts about BMW: 1) The N54 is still in production and used in the current Z4 35i and 35is. 2) In a Z4 you can get sport+ steering combined with normal suspension etc by selecting DSC=off. (Update: DSC=off also offers sports steering in the M135i) 3) All Z4s with 19" wheels are still only offered with the worst performing OEM tires ever sold with a DCT equipped BMW (Potenza RE 050 RFT).

In 2nd gear, the M4 seemed to get stuck a bit at 5500 rpms then farted and kept going. It was strange. Lose traction?
