Have a questiong regarding 335 automatic transmission
HAVE A QUESTION...NOT A QUESTIONG LOL.
No, im not trying to start an auto vs manual thread... I just have a simple question. Last night I took home my cousins 07 interlargos blue m6 vert...ac snitczer out btw its so sick, and its smg. The transmission is a litttle strange to me because I drive a manual now, so i just had to adjust to it. After a little while though it grew on me alot, worked very well. If i remember correctly reading the shift times for bmw's smg is like 500 millaseconds, and the audi dsg is something like 250 millaseconds. I then remember reading a thread about the automatic transmission thats in the 335 and ppl were saying that it shifts in 100 millaseconds. If that is the case how could these smg's be any better then the standard auto? Only thing I could possibly think is maybe less drive terrain loss due to not having the torque converter on the smg. Even the fact that the auto "supposidly" shifts faster then the smg puzzles me though. |

You've got the shift times wrong for the SMG...it's closer to 50 milliseconds. It's not just the speed of the shift that makes it sportier - because it is essentially a proper manual gearbox controlled by computer, you get instant response whenever you nail the throttle.

yeah, I don't see how SMG is slower then the E9x automatic.
Like jhbodle said, the SMG is a manual without a clutch pedal. The E46 SMG and 6MT shared a number of parts.
