Full Gas Tank

Just wondering, how much gas do you fill up when you do put in gas? I heard somewhere that filling up to the fullest isn't good for the car and also recieve low mileage because of the weight. Is this true?

You can hear a lot of things when it comes to cars. At the end of the day do what you want and think is safe.

I hardly fill it all the way up. Just no need.

If they didn't want it full, they would have made it smaller.

I fill mine until the pump stops, then no more. I never let it get below 1/4 tank. Gas mileage difference would be minimal as even a full 16 gallons of gas does not weigh very much at all.

I always fill it to the top when I have the change so I don't have to stop more frequently to put more gas. however there are times that I'm in a hurry and I only put $20

but to be honest I don't worry about fuel consumption or gas prices when I'm driving my Bimmer, is all about driving pleasure if I want it to save gas I would have gotten a hybrid in the 1st place right ?

Aviation gasoline weighs about 6 pounds per gallon, and I believe automotive gas is about the same ... so a full 16 gallon tank would weigh about the same as a small passenger or a big dog. I always fill until the pump stops, and that's it. I see no reason not to fill it ... why should I make myself visit a gas station more often than I have to?

I usually fill it to the max unless Im in a hurry to get somewhere in which case I just fill up to the amount that I think is enough to get me there and to a gas station afterward.

The pump in the tank uses the gas to cool itself... So running it down to empty all the time might just might reduce the life of your pump.

I read something in Car & Driver once that they test cars with a full tank of gas. A car's "curb weight" is supposed to be full of all fluids, including fuel.

I live in NJ so I do not fill the tank myself. The attendants always like to round up after the click. I usually refuel when about 1/8 to 1/6 left.

A full tank weighs only 93 pounds. Why would you not fill up all the way?

That's interesting...I'm a habitual offender. If it clicks, I'll pump more gas in until it's topped off. Been doing that since I've started driving, on the same set of cars with no problems.

I'm not buying the 'wreak your car' part.

I also log my mileage/mpg religiously...I'll see if leaving it at one 'click' has any impact on mpg.

Fill until the pump stops. Nothing in the manual warning about filling to the top!

To insure that my tank is full, I usually overfill the tank until gasoline comes pouring out of the fill tube. Anyone else love the smell of gasoline?
