You can't just swap a DME from the same type of vehicle due to identifying information in the DME needing to match the rest of the car. Your "option 2" is the only way for cars with S55 DME's produced in 7/2020 or newer.

I've helped numerous 6/2020+ S55 DME owners get a cloned and unlocked DME so they can tune.
