I was getting the same noise as well and found this thread but noticed there was no final answer. I was getting the same popping/clunking noise on slow turns especially on uneven roads. Turns out my top hat nut was loose. Tightened and noise is gone. Installed coilovers couple months back, guess the nut wasnt fully tight.
