Yeah I know, I'll eventually replace the head unit, but until then.....
So I got my update as a download with instructions on how to set up the files on the USB and such. After multiple FAILS one of my guys at work said..... Maybe your car doesn't recognize USB 3? Huh? There's different USB's? Turns out that was the secret sauce. Loaded everything onto a USB 1(couldn't find a 2 of the correct size in the house) and Bam! Maps updated. I'm a 2013.
USB 1 - White
USB 2 - Black
USB 3 - Blue
