There is an exception to every rule, but generally speaking, crank hub issues appear to mostly occur based on a combination of power and shifting style, and primarily downshifting style.
My understanding is that it really has nothing to do with power output within a gear, but about how violently you downshift gears while going full WOT.
So, ultimately, it’s a subjective decision based on your risk tolerance but also based on your driving habits.
If you have a DCT and you think you might find yourself in a situation where you want to be downshifting a gear or two and still going full WOT, your driving habits may require getting the CH done.
If you have a MT and you don’t like ripping through downshifts while full WOT, then I would forget about.
I personally rarely ever find myself in such a high adrenaline situation where I’m downshifting and full WOT. I’ll usually just complete the shift and then get back on it because I’m not in a time trial.
Just my 2 cents.
