It's... A lot more purple than blue. Tanzanite had a lot more of a dynamic/color shift. The metallic flake popped a lot in the sun and exposed that navy blue texture/hue. At night or under shade, the car could look dark blue or almost black. In some lighting at night, it could even pass for a midnight blue/purple. Tanzanite is easily one of my favorite colors if not my favorite.

Velvet is very well explained in the name itself, minus the blue. The color texture is very silky and metallic. There's a not a lot of color shift like Tanzanite, in the sun the flake pops and you can see different shades of purple - dark purple in a "velvety" smooth transition between the hues.

California has tons of sun, so seeing the reflection in darker cars is pretty sweet, I like the color, but Tanz is still king in my book.
