Was it an unscrupulous move? Not quite. Was Lups in the wrong for declining? Absolutely not, in my humble opinion.

True, the markups I have seen had been applied to car that are already on dealers' lot, ready for a customer to take home that day. The possibility to take a car home that is in high demand that very day is what makes people willingly to pay the markup.
The dealership pulled something like this is probably because nothing was written down, and now that the car was actually going to be delivered in a week or so, it is great time to mark it up.
