Not sure if folks are aware, there has been interest in doing this since late 2016 and up until Gates Innovations entered the picture, there has not been a cost effective solution. Some members paid up to $400 and sent their keys overseas to get this done. Not exactly a great deal or quick and easy.

If someone has all the specialized tools and know how, then good for them, it seems to be a DIY. But for the rest of us, $150 is a steal for a huge time and tool investment for a very appealing upgrade to what I would consider, a poor design by BMW. I honestly can't believe the Roll Royces used the same key design. It's so chunky and unappealing to the eyes.
