Porsche does the same thing though, so not like BMW is alone in this. I think Acura is a bit better about that but they don't exactly offer anything competitive to make most performance addicts take a glance (not since the NSX anyway).

I hear you, I made that mistake when I bought my first BMW which was E92 M3. I though I was buing top of the range car with everything already included. I was dead wrong. Oh well, I still pulled the trigger on it.
Let's not even talk about Porsche options...that stuff is out of control.
