If I had to describe the noise, it sounds like a hollow rotation noise?

No this should not be the case.

Couple things to check out

is the tire wear even?
is there any evidence of cupping?
tire pressure?

Really really hard to damage a wheel dismounting or mounting. You can tell if you go to another shop and have them rebalanced but you would already know they are damaged or not balanced via vibration which you dont have.
