This makes no sense. This car is now a dated model. The 3 series ended as a 2018 model. The 4, being a model year long, should end as a 2019 model. But to stretch it out like this, I think it's a bad idea.

Yup. The M4 is continuing into next year also. That's how this works. The F30 3 series was released a year (give or take) before the F32 4 Series. BMW generally gives models a seven year run. So, the G20 comes first and then the G22 a year or so later.
