But first, as in the post above, WTF is this thread for if not friendly banter over whether the G8x makes it to the semi-finals??
Also, sales #s are only part of the story cause:
1.) BMW lies about sales numbers
2.) All sales aren't equal, i.e., dealer incentives, rebates, etc; that's why you look at ATP numbers and we know that while BMW's sales are up, their ATP is down both M/M and Y/Y ... that probably isn't good, and certainly not preferred or explainable AFAIK (e.g., Tesla halted sales their luxe products while M3 sales are blowing up, thus falling ATP)
3.) Lots of "fools" might buy a new G8x - the real test is can those new buyers find a "great fool"?
I have no doubt that:
a.) BMW is using all of its power to control negative media, blowback (we're here right??), and negative numbers.
b.) BMW will use all of its power to move a respectable # units & they will ... by hook or crook as the saying goes
c.) There are people that legit like the G8x design and will buy & enjoy them.
So where will we be at the end of the season?
* BMW will retire the design
* BMW will retire the designers
* G8x resale values will lag every previous M3/4
* BMW will declare the G8x a big win and then quickly change the subject
In a decade we'll hear in interviews how the G8x was BMW's lowest moment & design schools will use the G8x as the premier example of bad design.
