I don't think there are enough people just going around to ask for allocation.
The more typical buyer just go straight for lot cars because they don't care. Online community are still in the minority. As most of us know what we want or prefer, we like to get something to order instead of buying off lot if we can avoid it.
Not every regular buyer thinks this way. One of the reasons why Tesla is so popular is that they don't have to deal with dealerships. Dealerships play games, a lot, unless you know your way around them. Dealerships/floor salesman can easily lie to you about not having allocation (and they don't prove it) and just make you buy off lot.
