Everyone thinks the previous gen car falls off a cliff - it just doesn't happen. What does happen is the cars depreciate and they depreciate even faster when outside their 4 year warranty.

I think reliability would play into it to. The E46 and E90/E92 both have had well known issues after certain years.
At least thus far, the F80/F82 have been very reliable compared to the previous two. I still do not believe the crank hub is a problem unless you tune the car past certain HP/Torque the S55 is not really meant to handle.
