On a new car I think NAV is a plus, but it doesn't age well and is not an "enthusiast" option.

You can't compare "
older generation" models -
assuming you meant pre-E46 - because those enthusiasts weren't given the same options. No road going ///M produced in the last 10-12 years is really all that focused.
