I would get a 2nd opinion on that. I know that my friend picking up his 550xi without car play was able to get it added (even though I warned him he was wasting his money) before he left the dealer.

Yes, I understand you can just add it through the Connected Drive web site and see it there available for my MY18 if I so choose.
