Improper grip on the shifter. Hand should not be full wrapped around shifter like holding a microphone or this can happen. Hand should be more on top of shifter like picking up eggs out of a basket and pull straight back. If you have "microphone" grip you tend to pull towards your body when pulling quickly and then you will pull towards 2nd instead of straight down into 4th. |
Agreed. I only use 2 to 3 fingers max to shift and never had this issue in 8 years. OP should probably practice shifting quickly without the engine on to avoid this issue and research proper technique before redlining.
