BMWs do not explode after the warranty. I have had many and still have my E90 (with about 100 thousand miles on it and no major repairs).
I plan to keep my car for about 10 years which is typical for me. I may keep it longer. There is the possibility of a major repair but the expense of that is small compared to the thousands you save by not having car payments. This "explode when warranty expires" thing is way overplayed.
