I like the look of both cars. Going with the M3 because I used to own a 135i coupe and found it a bit inconvenient for hauling people and things. While the M4 is a bigger car it's still not conducive to carrying a drumset and other gear to gigs. I have an X3 now and it's going to be tough to give up the utility - especially the easy access to the back seat. The M3 is the best of both worlds and the fact that it looks great is icing on the cake.
