It would have to be a decent leak to affect the level enough to cause damage. Yeah in a perfect world it would be bone dry but I wouldn't worry about a dampness around the seal as long as it wasn't liquid if that makes sense.

Sitting for a month may have made it weep slightly as the seal may have grabbed as it moved off for the first time. BMW seals seem to leak more on the infrequently used cars than the daily drivers, that's not to say exclusively this way but seems more common and has no factual backup just a hunchI tend to swap between the m2 and X5 every few weeks to stop them sitting too long.
