And that isn't changing soon. Part of what helps control costs in consumer EVs is the clutch-less single speed step down gearbox that's integrated into the motor unit assembly. A transmission isn't just unnecessary to achieve sufficient performance for a street driven vehicle, but it would also complicate the drivetrain, including the M/G regeneration functionality.
