I’ve done this twice now. The first time was easy. This time was a pretty stressful. The main reason was the dealership. They are a small dealership, and I don’t think they knew what they were doing. That said, there was nothing that was really competetive in California. The market here is different, so there are better deals across the country.

The tax and registration is easy... you’ll need to get it smogged, and then just take it to the DMV and pay tax and registration. Don’t let the dealership charge any tax or registration fees.

But again, the dealership is a factor. I would look for one that has a big inventory, because that means they sell a lot of cars, which probably means they ship a lot of cars.
