Our last ED trip took in a good chunk of Austria -have friends born and raised there and have to say was impressed with the country (recent political issues aside). Spectacular scenery, fantastic driving options, a breath of fresh air re speed restrictions relative to Switzerland, but of course an extreme end member comparison!!
As others have said, not an inexpensive place to live but this argument can be made of just about anywhere these days and everything is a compromise - just depends on your priorities
Also attractive in respect relatively close proximity to a ton of options in surrounding countries.
