BK9731 if you decide to stick with the M3, you should order the winter tire package (or something similar) from your dealer soon as it is expected to take 4-6 weeks to be delivered. I also live in NJ (northern) and I recently placed my order for the wheels/tires. I will only be driving in light snow (if I can help it) as I can work from home if its severe or borrow the wife's SUV.
In efficient mode, the M3 can be driven in a very civilized manner manner. Add in snow tires and maybe some weight in the trunk, and I think (hope) we should be fine.
