The need for PPF in that area (or the side skirts) will depend on the conditions where the car is driven (and the presence of spacers of course). I chose not to do the area behind the front tires and have no chips there 1.5 years later. IMO, the most important action on the F80 (doesn't seem to be an issue on the F82) is to replace the OE PPF on the rear fenders with much larger pieces. I wish larger pieces had come from the factory (even it it cost more). That said, I partially understand why BMW did not fit larger pieces; German roads are so good that after 700 miles driving during my ED, the car sustained no paint chips anywhere.
