Spreaders only work if you take the caliper off. The rotor prevents use of piston spreaders while the caliper remains mounted to wheel hub assembly.

I use the common spreader on my M3 without issue. I think the guy above wasnt using it correctly. Mine was probably 10 bucks?, does the trick!
