Many years ago I learned how to properly ingress/egress out of a friend's Ferrari Testarosa and ever since then, none of my BMW seats have had major wear on the side bolsters due to using proper technique.
1. face out towards the outside
2. butt leading into the car, slightly bending
3. plop down, turn body towards front of car and pull legs over the door sill and into the car
