Emailed PowerStop with a general "wtf?" - no damage to the wheel or caliper, and no stones or sticks stuck in the wheel. I think the things broke off due to brittle metal (you can see the porous break) and very cold temps combined with vibration.

Get Akebonos I just swapped them yesterday and the quality is night and day. Never will I cheap out on pads again. The squeaking and horrible QC was unbearable. My shims weren't in place, fitment was crap, and the only thing that worked was the metal retainer clip lmao.
