Or, how about just compete with Vette... please.
Why isn't the engine size bigger than 3.0L for the M. Damnit.
So now we're just buying a "BMW." Meh. I'll keep the V8 and supercharge to get that torque I desire. This 3.0L looks like they squeezed every last inch out of the turbo they could. You can only make a scooter engine so powerful.

The M3 has never about being the fastest/highest HP car out there. It won many awards for being the best balanced vehicle with a good mix of sport, luxury, and technology.
The new M3 will not differ much from that winning formula, but stock for stock will be faster than the e9x generation.
If there is to be criticism/comparison it should be with its peers: C63, ISF, ATS-V, etc... Given that the next c63 will probably have a twin turbo v8 and be lighter than the current car, it may further surpass the future M3 in acceleration and BMW better be paying attention--maybe increased boost ala LCI competition pack.
Even though the Vette/GTR/911 are often cross shopped by M3 owners, BMW will not compete directly with those sports cars with the M3.
