ED always requires a deposit, your CA needs to sell the idea to his SM to release one of their allocation to ED dept. AFAIK, dealer lose some mfg incentive thus they are not even want to entertain ED unless it makes sense for them.
ED on non-M car may requires no deposit, heck it doesn't come from dealer allocation, my CA would give me $500 over ED invoice on 3/4 series all day long but not M3/M4.
My dealer even said no on M2 ED when I bluff them with full US MSRP last summer.
