Electric is great from a dig, but not that good on top. Electric motors generate maximum torque at zero RPM, but torque tapers off quickly on the top end. That is why hyper hybrids (LaFerrari, 918, P-1) are so great where the internal cumbustion and electric engines complement each other.

That assumes you have a single gear on the electric motor. If you get a transmission with multiple gears, then this problem goes away. Some Formula E cars use transmissions that have more than one gear
