You can do that but its not necessary at all IMO. A hair dryer (instead of a heat gun), some strong thumbs, and some patience is all you need. Push in from one of the corners on either the top or the bottom and wait for it to eventually break free. Once it does its much easier to keep pushing until the rest of the reflector separates from the adhesive.
